Investing in the next generation of business leaders can start with something as simple as a conversation.
Mark Williams Auto Group recently had the opportunity to return to the University of Cincinnati and spend an afternoon with freshman business students. The visit provided an open conversation about the automotive industry, dealership operations, technology, and the realities of running a business.
Charlie Watson, Marketing Director for Mark Williams Auto Group, and Josh Williams, General Manager of Queen City Ford and Vice President of Mark Williams Auto Group, represented the organization during the classroom visit.
The students were introduced to the many different elements involved in running an automotive dealership. Charlie and Josh discussed the roles of various departments and how those teams work together, along with topics such as dealership revenue, marketing, competition, customer engagement, and lead management.
The conversation also provided an opportunity to discuss where the industry is headed.
Artificial intelligence continues to influence the way businesses operate, and automotive dealerships are beginning to use AI across a variety of functions. From marketing and customer communication to analyzing information and managing leads, technology is becoming an increasingly important part of automotive retail.
For college students entering the business world, understanding that constant change is part of doing business can be just as valuable as learning about a particular industry.
The students were eager to participate, asking questions and engaging with Charlie and Josh throughout the visit. Their curiosity helped create an open discussion about both the opportunities and challenges that come with working in automotive retail.
Now, the students will have the opportunity to take that discussion a step further.
Their class is completing a SWOT analysis of Mark Williams Auto Group as part of their coursework. The assignment will have students examine the organization through four areas: strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
It is a chance for students to take the business concepts they are learning at the University of Cincinnati and apply them to an actual organization. At the same time, Mark Williams Auto Group gets to hear the observations and ideas of students who may bring an entirely different perspective to the business.
We believe there is value in creating connections between the classroom and the business community. These conversations give students a chance to learn from real-world experiences while allowing businesses to engage with future professionals who will help shape their industries.
Thank you to the University of Cincinnati for welcoming Mark Williams Auto Group back to campus. We enjoyed spending time with the students and sharing a little more about the automotive business.
Now, we're excited to see what they discover.
